I used this book for an intermediate micro course I took, and while I cannot say that it instilled in me a burning desire to further study economics, I also did not hate the book. The course I found to be fairly dry as it progressed rather slowly, but from what I read of this book I found myself pleasantly surprised by its readability. I expected a book that would hold my hand and walk me slowly through every step (which is what I did not want), and even though the book is approachable for students of varying mathematical backgrounds, he was not as afraid as I expected him to be with mathematics. The graphs are generally useful, though sometimes the formatting places them in awkward positions or on subsequent pages. The exercises are fairly routine. It's a fine book, and I'm sure many economics students will find great use from it. For me, though, I don't think I'll be changing teams to join economists any time soon. But, my brief experience was not as bad as I expected.
This book has very few examples and no practice problems. you have to buy the separate workbook if you want the practice problems which is really frustrating
Main points and terms are not highlighted and it's difficult to scan for specific concepts without reading the entire chapter. There's a lot of conceptual info, but not as much help with practice/examples for word problems that would be found on a test. The book provides derivations but no examples of how certain problems would be framed or executed. All in all, a good book to read for someone new to microeconomics, but not such a good book for an advanced microeconomics class.
I bought this book for a master's course. I'm an engineer so economics is not my main field. That's why I considered the clarity of the topics to be very important and the book did not disappoint except for a couple of issues.I don't think the order in which topics are covered is the best. Fortunately my teacher felt the same way and the course started with topics covering market supply, demand and equilibrium.Also the figures aren't great as sometimes they are filled with lots of information and curves that are used for many examples. IMHO it'd be clearer to have more figures to show step-by-step how they are constructed.The book title is spot on!Bottom line: Highly recommended.
Good microeconomics text for masters level courses. Excellent illustrations presented in a clear manner.
Study up
This book gives excellent graphs and proofs for microeconomic concepts. This booked really helped me in my intermediate microeconomics class.
Goes into concepts too quickly without proper background explanation. This is especially problematic for technical concepts that require a lot of math.
